Sir John Soane’s Museum

The High Victorian Townhouse from the 19th century in the heart of London in the Lincoln's Inn Fields area is the home of the English architect Sir John Soane, a passionate collector of art, antiquities, drawings, architectural models, sculpture, furniture, architectural ornamentation, ceramics, clocks, spanning Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art, with over 6,000 pieces in total. The collection also includes books, engravings, and personal items belonging to Sir John Soane and his family. The museum's collection, amassed between 1753 and 1837, exceeds 10,000 pieces. Each item in the house lacks a label for description, but knowledgeable guides provide detailed explanations as the limited space necessitates careful curation. This underscores Sir John Soane's ability as an architect to effectively utilize architectural features and functions for displaying works. The house is open for free visits, but viewing time is limited, and reservations are not accepted unless part of a group. Photography and sketches inside are not permitted. For those in England, it is highly recommended not to miss this unique experience and to see the collection through one's own eyes at least once.

THE FRICK COLLECTION is an art museum that houses one of the finest collections of European paintings in New York City. The collection belongs to Henry Clay Frick, an immensely successful American industrialist and financier. Frick's collection includes paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and furniture. The museum is located between 70th Street and Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. In the mid-1930s, after the deaths of Frick and his wife, their residence was transformed into a museum.
Apart from being the home of the Frick Collection, the site also houses the Frick Art Reference Library. In 2008, both the house and the library were designated as National Historic Landmarks. Currently, THE FRICK COLLECTION at 70th Street is undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen to the public by late 2024. Some parts of the collection are temporarily displayed at FRICK MADISON, located on Madison Avenue at 75th Street. This temporary space is the former building of the Whitney Museum of American Art, known for its distinctive architecture and use of materials. The display at FRICK MADISON is open until March 2024, providing a unique opportunity for those who do not want to miss out.

The Museum Van Loon is an art museum located in the artistic city of Amsterdam. This museum consists of two adjoining townhouses situated along the Keizersgracht canal. It is named after the Van Loon family, Dutch aristocrats who resided in this house since the 19th century. Before becoming the Van Loon family residence, the house was once inhabited by Ferdinand Bol, a prominent artist and a disciple of Rembrandt, a key figure in Dutch art.
Inside the museum, you can find a collection of artworks from both Dutch and international artists. The interior of the house is adorned with decorative elements such as silk fabrics, elegant chandeliers, sculptures, stucco work, and beautifully patterned wood carvings. . The Jim Thompson House Museum is located on Soi Kasemsan 2, near the BTS National Stadium Station in Thailand. This museum narrates the story of James Harrison Wilson Thompson, the founder of the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company, and his significant contributions to making Thai silk internationally renowned. In the late 1950s, Jim collected ancient art, artifacts, and Buddha statues. He built a compound consisting of six Thai-style houses to house his extensive collection. Jim acquired these traditional Thai houses from various parts of the country, dismantled them, and reassembled them using his architectural knowledge. He also received assistance from a group of carpenters from Ayutthaya.
In 1967, Jim disappeared from a hotel in Malaysia while on vacation and never returned. Currently, the Jim Thompson Foundation has opened the Jim Thompson House in Thailand, where they gather and exhibit Jim's extensive collection. The museum allows tourists from around the world to view the priceless items that Jim accumulated while living in this house. The foundation has preserved and restored the house to its original condition, showcasing Jim's personal collection in various rooms. The collection includes art objects such as glazed ceramic tiles, including Chinese tiles, patterned tiles, and tiles from Lopburi-Khmer, Sukhothai, and Sawankhalok. There are also Thai ceramics, various Buddha statues from different periods, as well as pieces of Buddha statues from various countries in Southeast Asia. The exhibition also features a large number of paintings, mostly with Buddhist themes. Additionally, there is a collection of Phra-Bot textiles, depicting an image of Lord Buddha or a story related to Lord Buddha in early Rattanakosin from the 18th-19th centuries.

The Justin Art House Museum originated from the idea of Charles and Leah Justin, contemporary art collectors who wanted to share their experiences and personal collection, which they had accumulated in their Melbourne home in Australia. The museum, encompassing design, architecture, and cuisine, was born to provide viewers with a space to appreciate their extensive art collection. Charles and Leah have been collecting contemporary art for over 40 years, amassing a collection of over 300 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, as well as digital and video art from both Australian and international artists. During each visit, Charles and Leah personally conduct tours of the museum and the residential part of the building, showcasing how they integrate art into their lives. The museum also features an apartment area, demonstrating how they live with art, along with the intriguing design of staircases that play with light, enhancing the visitors' experience. Therefore, the entire building is designed not only to house the collection but also to rotate exhibitions and transform several rooms into exhibition spaces.

Another museum from Australia, created by collectors Corbett and Yueji Lyon, consists of two houses. The first one is The Housemuseum, located at 219 Cotham Road, designed as a private residence by Corbett Lyon himself. It is recognized as one of the top 10 private art museum buildings globally by Larry's List. This museum was established to house and showcase the Lyon family's private art collection, serving as their residence as well. Visitors need to check specific visitation days and make advance reservations. Another building is the New Public Housemuseum Galleries, designed by Lyon as well. Both structures have been expanded to exhibit contemporary art, showcasing works in architecture, design, and various art disciplines at both national and international levels. The design of these spaces allows for large and flexible exhibition areas, accommodating artworks and monumental sculptures up to 5.5 meters in height.
The exhibition of the Lyon Family's art collection consists of creative personal works produced by the Lyon family, featuring over 50 contemporary artists from Australia. The collection includes more than 350 pieces, making it one of the largest collections in the country.
