Art appreciation ศิลปวิจักษ์ หรือเรียกง่ายๆ ว่า การเข้าใจถึงศิลปะ ว่าด้วยการเสพงานศิลป์ ทำไมเราต้องฝึกฝนความชื่นชมในงานศิลปะกันล่ะ ในสมัยก่อนศิลปะถูกมองว่าเป็นเรื่องไกลตัว เป็นของชนชั้นสูง คนมีเงิน ศิลปิน หรือ คนที่ทำงานเกี่ยวกับศิลปะเท่านั้น เพราะถูกมองว่าดูยาก เข้าใจยาก และที่สำคัญคือ ระบบการศึกษาไม่เคยสอนเราเลยสักนิดว่าศิลปะนั้นแท้จริงแล้วเป็นของทุกคน

มนุษย์ต่างจากสัตว์อย่างชัดเจนอย่างหนึ่ง คือการที่เรามีความสร้างสรรค์ทางด้านศิลปะมาตั้งแต่อดีตกาล ตั้งแต่ยุคที่เราเป็นมนุษย์ถ้ำเราก็เขียนผนังถ้ำ ต่อมามีลูกปัด เราก็เอาลูกปัดมาร้อยเป็นเครื่องประดับ หรือเพื่อการบันทึกความทรงจำบางอย่าง เราก็ทำการจารึกตัวหนังสือ จากกระดูกสัตว์ หิน ต่อเมื่อเรามีอารยธรรม อันได้แก่อารยธรรมเมโสโปเตเมีย อียิปต์ อินเดียโบราณ กรีก และจีนโบราณ เป็นต้น เรามีทั้งจิตรกรรม สถาปัตยกรรม แฟชั่นดีไซน์ การสร้างสิ่งสวยงามเพื่อประดับทั้งร่างกายและสถานที่ เส้นทางอันยาวนานของมนุษย์เรานั้น ก็โรยทางมาด้วยศิลปะทั้งสิ้น

ถ้าหากเราไม่ได้มีการเรียนรู้ศิลปะที่เคยมีคนทำไว้ก่อนหน้านั้น มันจะเป็นหนทางให้เรามาถึงตอนนี้กันได้อย่างไร แทนที่เราจะต่อยอดจากศิลปะ ความงามที่เคยมีคนคิดไว้ก่อนหน้านั้น บางทีเราอาจจะหลงไปทำซ้ำ แต่ก็ไม่ดีเท่าเดิมอีกด้วย ในทางตรงข้ามถ้าหากเราได้เรียนรู้ เราก็ไม่ต้องเริ่มจากความรู้ศิลปะที่เป็นศูนย์ เราสามารถเข้าใจความเป็นไปของการเปลี่ยนแปลงของกระแสศิลปะ ซึ่งมีพลังตอบโต้ระหว่างกันในแต่ละวัฒนธรรมของแต่ละชนชาติ

การเรียนรู้เรื่องสุนทรียศาสตร์ ถือเป็นรากฐานสำคัญของงานหลากหลายแขนง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการทำแฟชั่น การสร้างภาพยนตร์ การออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรม งานตกแต่งภายใน งาน Product Design ในแบบต่างๆ ตั้งแต่ข้าวของเครื่องใช้ เฟอร์นิเจอร์ ซึ่งนอกจากฟังก์ชั่นของสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ต่าง ๆ มันยังมีมิติของความงามเป็นพลังขับเคลื่อนของสิ่งเหล่านั้นอีกด้วย พอเราเข้าใจในประวัติศาสตร์ของความงาม จะทำให้เราตัดผ่านช่วงแห่งกาลเวลาเป็นร้อย เป็นพันปีมาสู่ปัจจุบันได้ด้วยการศึกษา

เพื่อให้ประเทศเรามีศักยภาพทางด้านงานศิลปะประยุกต์แขนงต่างๆ รวมทั้งการผลิตงานศิลปะประเภท Fine Art เราจำเป็นที่จะต้องให้มีการเรียนรู้ด้านสุนทรียศาสตร์ให้แก่นักเรียน นักศึกษาจากสถานศึกษา สำหรับประชาชนทั่วไปก็เรียนรู้ได้จากแหล่งเรียนรู้ หรือเรียนรู้ด้วยตัวเองผ่านคลังความรู้ออนไลน์ใดๆ ถือเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการขับเคลื่อนประเทศของเราทั้งทางด้านเศรษฐกิจสร้างสรรค์ได้

ดังนั้น Art appreciation จึงมีความสำคัญต่อความคิดเชิงสร้างสรรค์ การวิเคราะห์ วิพากษ์ และเสริมสร้างองค์ความรู้ต่างๆ เพิ่มมากขึ้น เพื่อเปลี่ยนจากความเข้าใจว่าศิลปะต้องปีนบันไดดู/ฟัง ให้ผู้คนเข้าใจว่า จริงๆ แล้วศิลปะนั้นอยู่กับเราในแทบทุกด้านในชีวิต บทสนทนาระหว่างศิลปินกับผู้เสพ จนถึงความสุนทรีย์ ความบันเทิง งานอดิเรก จนกระทั่งเกิดขึ้นกับตัวเราอย่าง รสนิยม เพราะศิลปะไม่มีกฎเกณฑ์ตายตัว แต่เชื่อมโยงเราได้กับสังคม เศรษฐกิจ วัฒนธรรม การที่เราดูหรือเข้าใจ ไม่ได้หมายความว่าเราต้องรักศิลปะ หรือต้องทำงานศิลปะ แต่อาจเป็นการพักผ่อน สร้างแรงบันดาลใจ หรือเชื่อมโยงตัวตนของเรากับส่วนใดส่วนหนึ่งของศิลปะก็เป็นได้
Art appreciation, or simply understanding art, involves engaging with works of art. Why do we need to cultivate an appreciation for art? In the past, art was often seen as something distant, reserved for the upper class, the wealthy, artists, or those working in the art world. It was perceived as difficult to understand and appreciate, and most importantly, the education system never taught us that art truly belongs to everyone.
One clear distinction that sets humans apart from animals is our innate creativity in the realm of art, which dates back to ancient times. From the moment we lived in caves, we began painting their walls. As we evolved, we adorned ourselves and recorded memories through the art of crafting. We started inscribing symbols and text, initially on animal bones and later on various materials. As civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Greece, and ancient China emerged, so did a plethora of art forms, including sculpture, architecture, fashion design, and the creation of beautiful objects to adorn both our bodies and our environments. Throughout our long history, the path of humanity has been adorned with art in all its forms.
If we do not have the opportunity to learn from the art that has been created before us, how can we arrive at this point? Instead of building upon the art and beauty that others have already conceived, sometimes we may inadvertently replicate it, but not as well. On the contrary, if we do learn, we don't have to start from a blank canvas. We can comprehend the evolution of artistic trends, which hold responsive power within the distinct cultures of each nation.
Learning about aesthetics is considered a fundamental foundation for various fields, whether it's fashion design, filmmaking, architecture, interior decoration, or product design in various forms, from everyday appliances to furniture. Besides the functions of these objects, there is also a dimension of beauty that drives them. When we understand the history of beauty, it allows us to transcend through centuries and epochs, enabling us to study the present through education.
In order for our country to have potential in various branches of applied arts, including the production of Fine Art, it is necessary to provide education in aesthetics to students and learners from educational institutions. For the general public, learning can be obtained from various sources or self-learning through online knowledge repositories. This is considered a part of driving our country's economic and creative development.
Therefore, Art appreciation is important for creative thinking, analysis, interpretation, and the enhancement of various forms of knowledge. It changes the understanding that art must be viewed or heard and helps people understand that, in reality, art is present in almost every aspect of life. The interaction between artists and audiences extends from aesthetics to entertainment, hobbies, and even personal preferences, as art has no rigid boundaries but connects us to society, the economy, culture, and our ways of seeing and understanding. It doesn't necessarily mean we have to love or create art, but it can be a form of relaxation, a source of inspiration, or a way to connect our identity with some aspect of art.
