Starting with the grandest design festival of the year, Bangkok Design Week 2024, which marks its 7th consecutive year. This year, it's packed with more than 500 programs of activities and shows, spread across 15 districts and various areas throughout Bangkok, from January 27 to February 4, 2024. It's an absolute must-not-miss event! Following that, we have the “80 YEARS Kamol Tassananchalee RETROSPECTIVE” exhibition, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the artistic journey of Kamol Tassananchalee, a national artist in visual arts from the year 1997. The exhibition will feature works like "Color Tubes" and much more for us to enjoy. So go check it out!

แมทดอต อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ ร่วมฉลองโอกาสครบรอบ 80 ปี แห่งการเดินทางบนเส้นทางศิลปะของ กมล ทัศนาญชลี จะนำผู้ชมย้อนกลับไปยังช่วงเวลาก่อนที่กมลจะได้รับการขนานนามให้เป็น “ศิลปินสองซีกโลก” ในปี 2528 ศิลปินใช้ทะเลทรายโมฮาวีเป็นเสมือนผืนผ้าใบภายใต้แผ่นฟ้ากว้าง จัดวางหลอดสีภาพพิมพ์สามมิติขนาดใหญ่เอาไว้ตามจุดต่างๆ ก่อนจะปล่อยให้กระแสลมตามธรรมชาติพัดพาผงสีกระจายตัวทอดยาวออกไปบนผืนทราย เกิดเป็นภาพอันน่าตื่นตาของเส้นสีสดใสบนภูมิทัศน์ของทะเลทรายอันเวิ้งว้าง

MATDOT Art Center celebrates the 80th anniversary of the artistic journey of Kamol Tassananchalee. For the exhibition at MATDOT Art Center, visitors are taken back to the time before Kamol was honored as the artist of the two worlds. In 1975, Kamol used the vast expanse of Mohave Desert sand and the whole blue sky as a canvas. He arranged many gigantic three-dimensional color tubes at various points before allowing the natural wind to disperse the color powder across the desert. The result is a captivating image of vibrant lines on the sandy landscape.
This artwork marks the beginning of Kamol's exploration into the creation of art related to "color tubes," leading to numerous experiments and innovations in the field of printmaking. Subsequently, he developed various forms of mixed media artworks. In terms of conceptual thinking, Kamol intertwines stories related to Buddhist philosophy, as well as the way of life and local wisdom of the East, with contemporary knowledge and artistic innovations from the Western world. Through his art, he eloquently narrates a thoughtful exploration of ideas.

Bangkok, January 8th, 2024 - West Eden is pleased to announce Apopheniac, an exhibition of new work by Cedric Arnold. On view from January 25th through March 31st 2024, the exhibition follows highly regarded shows in Avignon (Maison Jean Villar) 2022, Paris (Biennale de l’image Tangible) 2023, Río de Janeiro Museu de Arte Moderna (Dobra film festival), 2023

Arnold’s work begins with negatives from an earlier career as a photojournalist, appropriating the physical negative images and subverting their conventions through chemical and physical transformation. The altered and disappearing patterns in the photographic emulsion, blend moments together, re-script time and allow, through the flow of chemistry, for patterns to emerge where none might have ever existed.

The exhibition is titled Apopheniac, an invented word and condition derived from apophenia: the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things (such as objects or ideas). In an often desperate need to ascribe meaning and form a linear timeline of our lives, our narrating selves fuse together seemingly disjoined moments. This need for meaning often blurs the lines between reality and fiction. From the perspective of logic these are inaccuracies, human errors, glitches.
Yet, they are a necessary shortcut to navigate both our outer and inner worlds, our subjective realities, our traumas.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are Inadvertent Icon, 2020, and Apopheniac V, 2023; both pieces, by chance, pay homage to the master painters of the past.

Cedric Arnold (UK/France) started his career as a documentarian first in Belfast and London, before moving to South East Asia in 2001, where he worked with the likes of Time Magazine, Sunday Times, HBO, Washington Post amongst many others.
.
He combines his documentary background with experimental practices to explore themes relating to human perception of time, memory and reality, working with photography, immersive video and sound installations. His work has been exhibited internationally including Royal Ontario Museum, (Toronto, Canada), MAS | Museum aan de Stroom, (Antwerp, Belgium), Asia Culture Center, (Gwangju, South Korea), Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) He lives and works in Bangkok.

Haridas Contemporary is thrilled to announce Jeremy Sharma’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery as part of Singapore Art Week 2024. Since returning to painting towards the end of the Covid pandemic after more than ten years of absence, Jeremy Sharma has re-discovered a newfound urgency and intimacy in its representational form. Sharma will unveil fifteen new paintings.
His recent body of work addresses painting’s porosity to apprehend images from various sources (where digitality and screen captures have become ubiquitous), albeit belatedly, in a serial linen and stretcher format that delivers its subject from a mediated world. In selecting an image, he looks for effects, qualities and values that elicit interest to make a painting. He then acts upon them by extracting, cropping, reducing, magnifying or flattening the image for printing, to paint from.
